GLIDAR
GIAG has been involved in the setting up of the Government LIDAR (GLIDAR) group. The purpose of the group is to improve the efficiency and value of LiDAR data usage in New Zealand through a forum in which local and central government agencies and institutions can share knowledge and experiences gained from acquiring and using LiDAR data.
The objectives of GLIDAR include;
- To strengthen and expand knowledge and collaboration
- To offer a more sustainable resource use
- To be a "One Stop", supportive point of contact for practitioners
- A shared learning and knowledge environment
- To offer a national approach that reflects the intention of the New Zealand Geospatial Strategy
- To have a collective approach which creates economies of scale
- Access to people/organisations that have extracted more information/added value from their LiDAR data sets
- Standards across the board for LiDAR
- Specifications based on various applications of LiDAR
- Common tools and shared experience
- Access to data where the IP is not tied up, giving the potential to a pool data if desired.
At an initial meeting a Leadership Group was setup for GLIDAR.
More information on GLIDAR will be available in
their own website.
GLIDAR and Local Government
GLIDAR aims to provide supporting information for local government organisations who are currently using or considering purchasing LIDAR data. Local government staff with an interest in LIDAR can also become members of the GLIDAR group.
